The 10 Most Influential Fitness Stars, According to Forbes
Forbes, the renowned business magazine recently published a list of the major social media influencers in the world of beauty, home and fitness.
Using the power of social platforms, such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Youtube to build their own individual audience, the following fitness stars topped the polls when judged on their reach, relevance, audience numbers and resonance:
In ascending order, at number 10 is – Rachel Brathan
This Swedish-born 28 year old goes by the instagram handle @yoga_girl and has an impressive 2.1 million followers. Her rise to prominence was something of an accident as she initially just went travelling and hadn’t made any plans at all, at that stage. Before she knew it and In a very short time, Rachel realised that she had caused quite a stir:
“I realised I could sell out classes anywhere in the world, just through Instagram”
Such is her pull now that she is able to charge a minimum $25k for each Instagram post she puts out and she is the author of a New York Times bestselling book. Now based out of Oranjestad, Aruba, she is also responsible for a regular, well subscribed podcast.
At 9, we have Natalie Jill, 45, hailing out of San Diego, California.
This amazing Californian has over 514,000 followers and rose to fame during a difficult attempt to lose her post baby weight. Her own unique approach was used to great effect and it subsequently became a successful brand in its own right, spawning DVDs, e-books and a best-selling book.
Under the Instagram name @nataliejillfit, she even has a successful app to her name.
Forbes’ number 8 is 36 year old Lyzabeth Lopez and is known by the Instagram handle @lyzabethlopez.
With an estimated 2 million Instagram followers, this Canadian fitness star is famed for her “Hourglass Workout”. Her achievements include a hugely successful gym franchise and a very popular web-based training program.
Success hasn’t gone to Lyzabeth’s head however, as she remains faithful to her principles and professional integrity:
“I turn down six-figure social media campaigns on a very regular basis, due to not believing in the products”
Now to number 7. 30 year old Simeon Panda operates out of the cosmopolitan city of London and boasts over 3 million Instagram followers.
This late starter didn’t begin her blogging career until 2013, but that hasn’t stopped her gaining over 8 million combined Instagram and Facebook followers. A single video she published had more than 600,000 views and she has followed up this meteoric rise with her own sportswear line, e-books and a gym accessories brand.

In at 6 is Cassey Ho, 30, from Los Angeles, USA. Under the name @blogilates, Cassey has 1.3 million Instagram followers.
It has taken Cassey 8 years to reach her current level, starting as she did in the humble surroundings of a pilates class. After creating videos for her students to follow in their own time, word got out about how good they were. A popularity that had her videos eventually reaching an audience in the millions.
The Top 5
As we enter the top 5 of Forbes’ fitness superstars, we encounter our only male entrant on the list. At 5 we have Joe Wicks, 31 from Kingston upon Thames, UK, who goes by the Instagram pseudonym of @thebodycoach. A tireless dedication to the cause has led to a healthy 1.8 million Instagram followers, with Joe using his “Lean in 15” program as the cornerstone of his business enterprise.
Combining High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts with intelligent, healthy 15 minute food recipes, Joe Wicks has married up both parts of the fitness picture, citing his own physique and lifestyle as testament to his fitness plans.
Almost at the podium places now as we reveal the number 4 in Forbes’ list, as we introduce @michelle_lewin who in reality is Michelle Lewin, 31, from Miami Beach, Florida.
Michelle, originally from Venezuela, is a bodybuilder and commands up to $10k per instagram post. With a 14 million strong band of followers, she has partnered with a number of high-profile brands and has created a line of workout hardware.
Bronze goes to Emily Skye, 32 from the Gold Coast in Australia
Emily’s business acumen and a profitable online workout program, app, makeup line and video tutorials has seen her rise and rise since her introduction to the scene back in 2011.
With a Reebok training shoe collaboration in the pipeline and a clear head for business, the future looks very rosy for Emily.
Nearly there, with Silver and 2nd place going to Jennifer Selter
From New York City, at the tender age of 23. Known to her 11 million followers by the handle @jenselter and my, does Jennifer have her fingers in a lot of pies.
She is running 7 separate instagram accounts and is preparing to launch her own range of workout gear. Originally starting her career on the front desk of a gym, it illustrates that anyone with the right motivation and skills can get to the top.
Forbes’ Gold medal and top spot goes to Kayla Itsines, 25 from Adelaide, Australia.
Judged using several different business metrics, Kayla is ranked as the most influential fitness star in the world, highlighted by the fact that the “Sweat with Kayla” last year alone, generated $17m.
Using the Instagram name @kayla_itsines and boasting 6.7m followers, she is able to sell out stadium tours, once selling-out in just an hour.
Not too shabby. Not too shabby at all.

We think that they all have a very bright future ahead of them and they all had to start somewhere. If you have the drive and enthusiasm to inspire others to make a change for the better, there is no better medium to get your message across to the masses than to use social media.
